Carrot Top and possible steroid usage allegations

Besides making the headlines for his unique, witty, sense of humor, Carrot Top made heads turns due to his alleged use of steroids for body-building purposes. The scrawny college kid back who made his debut in television in ’92, years later doubled in size and made quite the buzz among fans and critics. Although Thompson had denied these accusations of steroid usage to bulk up, the media and audience refused to believe the same.

So the big question : Was Carrot Top on Steroids? Let’s dig deeper

Before we go into his whole steroid usage allegations, it is also to be noted about the reports of him having undergone plastic surgery and body enhancement procedures. If one looked at a young Carrot Top and his pictures from later in life, it is impossible not to see the glaring difference in his facial and body appearance. It is not a matter of age induced changes but rather the artificiality of his features that are hard to look past. His eyebrows are in a constantly arched up position, making him appear surprised all the time, in addition to how his skin is unnaturally tight around his lips and cheeks, almost as if it has been stretched and taped in place.

 Carrot Top Steroids

Carrot Top does perform on-stage fully clothed, hiding his muscles under hi clothing, but those of them who ran him to him in real life were shocked at how bulky his muscles appeared and how different he looked off-stage. In one picture, his right arm deltoid was so peculiar in shape, which only happens to those who take up steroid injections or oils causing the muscles to bloat up grotesquely. All these evidences unmistakably point towards a possible steroid usage.

What do steroids do?

Anabolic androgenic steroids are the most commonly taken performance-enhancing drugs taken by body-builders or people who want to get all jacked up with minimal efforts. These steroids get attached to their respective receptors in the muscles and cause growth and expansion of them, giving them a rounder, fuller and firmer appearance.

But did Carrot Top ever confess about steroid usage?

No. Carrot Top constantly denied his steroid usage allegations, in fact he even joked about it in his sketches. He claims to have trained for 15 years to bulk up. He apparently started training seriously in 2001. He has said in several interviews that it was years of lifting weights, even carrying them around in tours and working out whenever he could was the reason he gained muscles.

His workout routine supposedly included lifting weights on a 5 day split, sets of squats, deadlift, bench press, over-head press, pull-ups and chin-ups. He also was known for doing isolation movements such as barbell curls and triceps extensions.

Contrary to his statements about him having worked out his way to his bulked up physique and taking in a lot of good protein, in one of the videos where he was asked to share his fitness routine, Carrot Top fumbled with basic workouts, when asked about what kind of foods he takes for his protein content, he is seen to be struggling to mention them and tries to cover it up saying that his trainer takes care of all the details and he isn’t sure. If someone really did sweat it out for 15 year, one would be expected to know the basics, which wasn’t the case with Carrot Top. There has also been a rumour of possible Human Growth Hormone usage by the comedian, for his petite stature has quite drastically improved, which can be achieved by HGH for it also causes growth of bones, in addition to muscles.

Conclusion

Carrot Top regarding his plastic surgery and steroid usage rumours and allegation states that, he worked hard to “look the part” in the industry where a person’s looks are just as important as their talents. In an interview with Oprah he says, “People think I’ve had plastic surgery- no,it just takes a lot of make-up to make me look good.” He denied all allegations and says it was purely his hard work which got him to his spot.
